Charles Campbell excelled in indoor and outdoor track for the Big Red, previously holding records in the 880-yards run, the mile and the three-mile run. Charlie was also a member of several record-setting DU relay teams. As a junior, he received the Most Improved award, and was an All-American miler his senior year while earning Most Improved and Most Valuable Athlete awards.
Upon his graduation from Denison, Charlie was commissioned as a second lieutenant reserve office in the Air Force and was awarded the U.S. Air Force’s Commendation Medal and Bronze Star for Service. Campbell, who holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Dayton, began his career at Miami-Jacobs College, a private business school in Dayton. By 1983, he had become the president of the college.
Campbell owns the fourth-best time in the outdoor 1,500 and the fifth-best time in the indoor mile, both of which he achieved as a senior.
