Max Douglas, a Frazeysburg High School graduate, played basketball at Denison for three seasons and made All-Ohio his sophomore year.  In his senior year, Denison won the championship of the Buckeye Athletic Association which was composed of Miami University, the University of Cincinnati, Ohio University, Wittenberg University and Ohio Wesleyan University.

Max coached Newark High’s basketball team to a state championship in his very first year at the helm and had a lifetime coaching record of 240 wins against only 86 defeats at Newark.  In 1957, he became director of admissions for the Newark Campus of The Ohio State University before retiring from education in 1966.

Douglas is a member of the Newark High School Hall of Fame, and, in 1990, he was inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  He was one of the founders of the OHSBCA and the primary found of District 11.  Max also served as the OHSBCA President in 1956.
