Rex Stapleton was a four year letterwinner in football from 1986 through 1989 and was selected as the team’s captain and Most Valuable Player as a senior. Stapleton was chosen as the team’s Outstanding Defensive Back in 1987, 1988 and 1989 and was an All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection those same years. Stapleton was named to the North Coast Athletic Conference 10th Anniversary Team and was a NCAA Division III and Football News All-American Honorable Mention in 1988.

Since graduation, Stapleton has played and coached American football teams in several European American football teams in several European countries. His team in Switzerland won three Swiss championships. He has also served as a high school assistant football coach and offensive coordinator for former Big Red defensive back coach, Dave Gebhart.
