|Title:||Asst. Supervisor of Facilities|
In the fall of 2014, Steve Romine begins his 27th year of employment with Denison Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation.
Romine began working at Denison as a part-time lifeguard covering the early morning recreational swims at the Mike Gregory Swimming Pool. A short time later, Romine was hired as a part-time building supervisor of Denison's Physical Education Center, covering evening and weekend hours of operation. In September of 1998, he left his position as a buyer in the Acquisition Department of The Boeing Company's Defense Division to assume the full-time position of Assistant Supervisor of Athletic Facilities at Denison's athletics complex.
Romine assists in the daily operations of the Physical Education Center and the Mitchell Recreation and Athletics Center. Although duties include assisting with the hiring and scheduling of a roster of more than 100 facilities and lifeguarding student employees, Romine primarily provides training and supervision of the general student employee staff. He was instrumental in developing and over seeing the Facilities Student Supervisor program, providing select student employees the opportunity to gain experience in management of the day-to-day operations of the Denison athletic complex.
Romine's administrative duties include developing and maintaining department databases and electronic distribution lists. He assists in daily equipment issue, laundry and event setups, and coverage of Denison's 23 varsity sports, as well as setups for Denison's recreational and intramural programs.
Romine is a member of the Denison Student Employment Advisory Committee (SEAC), made up of a cross section of professional staff members who supervise student employees around the Denison campus. The SEAC offers support and ideas among offices and makes recommendations to the Student Employment Coordinator to help ensure that Denison's overall Student Employment program is operating as successfully as possible.
During the summer months, Romine works closely with the Office of Facility and Event Scheduling to coordinate and supervise the use of the athletics complex by summer camps and visiting groups. Each summer approximately 10,000 visitors make use of the college's athletic facilities.
Romine, a 60-year-old native and current resident of nearby Newark, graduated from Licking Valley High School (1970) and holds a bachelor of science degree in education, majoring in English, from The Ohio State University (1975).
