P.J. Soteriades returns in 2011-12 for her 12th season as the head field hockey coach at Denison. Since taking over as the head field hockey coach in 2000, Soteriades has won 102 games and has advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament seven times.
Last season, Soteriades took the Big Red to a 6-6 record in conference play and a No. 4 seed in the NCAC Tournament where they took top-seed Wittenberg to overtime before falling, 3-2. Soteriades also spent the spring of 2011 as the interim women's lacrosse coach. After the team was predicted to finish six out of seven teams in presason conference poll, Soteriades guided the team to a 6-0 record in conference play and the program's first NCAC Tournament Championship since 2006. The team qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in school history.
In 2009 the Big Red posted an 11-8 record which was the most wins at Denison since 2002. The team finished third in the NCAC standings before falling in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Seven players were named to the all-conference squad and Catie Merrick was named the conference's Newcomer of the Year after finishing second in the NCAC with 18 goals scored.
In 2000, Soteriades led the Big Red to a share of the North Coast Athletic Conference title finishing the season with a 13-8 overall and 10-2 conference record before bowing out in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
A 2000 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor of science degree in organizational communication, Soteriades has gained considerable field hockey experience at the college level. After competing for Mid-American Conference champion and NCAA Tournament participant Ball State University as a first-year student, Soteriades completed her collegiate career as a three-year member of the Ohio University Bobcat varsity squad.
Included among her honors at Ohio U. were being selected to serve as team captain during her senior season. A Dean's List student, Soteriades was also the recipient of OU's Scholar-Athlete Award, and she earned membership in Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society.
In addition to her playing and coaching background, Soteriades also brings significant organizational and leadership experience to the Big Red field hockey program. She founded her own company in Columbus which assists local executives and businesses with a wide range of services.
Soteriades also serves as the assistant advisor to the Denison Student Athlete Advisory Council.
