Less than a week removed from their last meeting, Denison and Kenyon will meet for a third time this season on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the semifinal round of the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Big Red qualified for the four-team tournament as the No. 2 seed after posting an 11-3 record in NCAC play. The Ladies earned the third seed by going 10-4 in league action.
Denison swept the season series against Kenyon, winning both games by one goal. On Oct. 1 in Gambier, freshman Charlotte Happel broke a scoreless tie in the 37th minute and sophomore goalie Ellen Westfall made three second-half saves to lead the Big Red to a 1-0 victory. In the regular season finale last Saturday, sophomore Lucy Pearsall blasted a shot past Sarah Speroff with 15.5 seconds left in regulation to send DU to a 2-1 victory.
This season, the Big Red surrendered a league-low 19 goals, while also finished second in the NCAC in goals scored with 53. Happel (14) and Pearsall (13) rank third and fourth, respectively, in the conference in goals. The duo also ranks in the top-5 in points with Pearsall boasting 33 and Happel recording 30. Westfall leads the conference with a 1.05 goals-against average, while also posting a league-best seven shutouts.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students with a valid NCAC ID. Any NCAC student with a valid NCAC Institution ID will be admitted free of charge. Admission will also be waived for the first 25 Denison faculty and staff members who arrived with a valid ID.
