Kabaira named Division III All-American

Michelle Kabaira
Michelle Kabaira

GILBERT, Ariz. – Freshman defender Michelle Kabaira was named to the 2017 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America second-team. She is the first freshman in program history to garner All-American status.

As an All-American, Kabaira continues her recognition on the national stage following a season where she was named North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-NCAC and All-Great Lakes Region.

In her freshman campaign, Kabaira helped the Big Red defense record 11 shutouts on the season, allowing only 17 goals in 21 matches played. Also recording four goals in her first year at Denison, two of her goals came in a 7-2 victory over Wittenberg University on Oct. 21.

Kabaira is the 16th All-American in program history, and the second in the last two years as junior Lucy Pearsall was named to the All-America second-team in 2016.

The Big Red finished the season 17-4 overall, 12-2 in NCAC play. They were named NCAC co-champions of the regular season and won their first conference tournament title since 2011.
