Denison junior post Jett Speelman was named North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week after leading the Big Red to a pair of wins last week.
Speelman helped the Big Red improve to an even 6-6 in league play with two double-digit scoring efforts in victories over DePauw and at Wittenberg. In an 81-60 decision over DePauw, the Granville, Ohio opened the week with a 24-point outing against DePauw, his eighth 20-plus point performance of the season. The win over DePauw gave Denison their first season sweep of the Tigers since they joined the NCAC.
Three days later, Speelman dropped 16 points in DU's 69-59 victory at Wittenberg which avenged a seven-point loss in Granville last December. In two games, the junior shot 47 percent (14-for-30) from the field and 92 percent (11-for-12) at the foul line. Speelman currently leads the NCAC in free throw percentage with a 90-percent conversion rate. He is also second in the league in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per contest.
The Big Red (11-8, 6-6 NCAC) looks to continue its climb up the conference standings on Wednesday when they travel to Oberlin. Tip-off against the Yeomen is slated for 8 p.m.
