ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa.—Denison's strong fall season continued on Sunday at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic hosted by McDaniel College.  The Big Red improved by 16 strokes over Saturday's opening round.  That allowed DU to finish in a tie for third place at the 17-team tournament.

Sophomore Christian Early continued his red-hot play with a 73 on Sunday.  He posted back-to-back birdies on the par-4 second and the par-4 third holes.  He also closed his round with a birdie on the par-5 18th. Early's 73 landed him in a four-way tie for second place in the overall standings at 149.  This season, Early has posted two top-5 finishes and three top-10s while leading the squad with a 74.1 average in eight rounds.

Denison's Charlie Winkler posted his fourth top-20 performance of the season after carding a 74 on Sunday.  After Saturday's 81, Winkler tied for 20th place at 155.  His round also featured three birdies which came on the par-5 eighth, the par-3 ninth and the par-4 17th.

Nick Brodbeck and Connor Holleran followed Winkler at 156, tying for 24th overall.  Holleran fired a 76 in the final round while Brodbeck improved by two strokes over Saturday's score with a 77.

DU's lineup was rounded out by Robbie Whitman who shot an 81 on Sunday to finish at 167 (t-60th).

McDaniel was the team champion finishing at 606.  St. John Fisher was second at 614.  DU tied with Franklin & Marshall for third place at 616 while Swarthmore checked in fifth at 620.  The only other North Coast Athletic Conference institution at the tournament was Allegheny College.  The Gators ended in a tie for 11th place at 631.

The Big Red is idle next week.  They return to competition on Oct. 15-16 at the NCAC Fall Preview.
