Merchant Marine no match for No. 14 Big Red

Denison outscored the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 13-2 in the first half, resulting in a 17-4 victory over the Mariners from Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.

The 14th ranked Big Red offense continued to fire on all cylinders following Wednesday's 16-4 victory over St. Mary's.  DU took a 7-1 lead after the opening quarter and they would tack on six more goals in the second quarter to take an 11 goal lead into the intermission.  In the second half they would respond with four more goals, putting the game out of reach.

Denison was led in scoring by senior attack Kyle Brown who finished with three goals and four assists.  Junior midfielder Davis Lukens notched four goals and two assists while hat tricks were also turned in by Alex Hardt and Emmett Jones.  In addition to his three goals, Jones also chipped in one assist to end the day with four points.

Senior midfielder Tanner Smith followed Brown in the assist category with three, and sophomore goalie Nick Petracca recorded four saves in two and a half quarters of action.

The Mariners were led by Adam Jerlow's two goals.  Shawn Kane posted four saves between the pipes for Merchant Marine.

Denison will return to Ohio with a 4-1 record and prepare for the March 26th North Coast Athletic Conference opener against The College of Wooster at 1 p.m. from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville.
