Big Red netters drop Little Giants

No. 29 Denison improved to 2-0 in the West Division of the North Coast Athletic Conference, following a 9-0 victory over Wabash College from Crawfordsville, Ind.  DU got straight-sets victories in all six singles matches and went unbeaten in doubles play.

At No. 5 singles, first-year Grant Veltman defeated Phil Kubisz 6-1, 6-1.  Veltman was also involved in the closest match of the day along with doubles partner Juan Guerra.  The duo topped Wabash's Wade Miller and Kubisz 9-8 (10-4) to secure the sweep in doubles.

Tim Martin, who became Denison's all-time doubles win leader on Wednesday, picked up an 8-4 win with Tom Cawood at No. 2 doubles.  Tyler Cempre and Matt McErlean teamed up for an 8-1 win over Daniel Delgado and Nate Koelpler.

In singles action, Cawood improved to 16-3 overall with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Miller.  McErlean moved to 10-6 in singles play with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Delgado and Casey Cempre topped Ian Leonard, 6-2, 6-1.

In flights four and six, Tyler Cempre and Andrew Marczak both earned straight-sets wins.

The win moves Denison's record to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC West.  Wabash falls to 15-9 and 0-3 in the west division.
