For the second time this season, Denison senior pitcher Rebecca Dyer was named North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after helping the Big Red secure a spot in the NCAC Tournament.
In three starts last week, Dyer went a perfect 3-0 with two shutouts and 36 strikeouts. Dyer opened the week with back-to-back shutout wins at Wooster and Ohio Wesleyan. Against the Scots, she matched her career-high strikeouts total with 13 Ks. She followed that up by fanning nine Battling Bishop hitters in a 7-0 win. In game one of Sunday's doubleheader with Kenyon, Dyer struck out a career-high 14 batters en route to an extra-inning victory.
Sunday's strikeout total leaves her eight Ks shy of breaking the Denison career mark set by DU Hall of Famer, Courtney Zollars (479). In 10 NCAC appearances this year, Dyer went 8-1 with a 1.00 ERA, 88 strikeouts and a .151 batting average against. She also had an 11/1 strikeout to walk ratio in conference play.
Dyer and the Big Red will open the 2014 NCAC Tournament on Friday against second-seeded Wittenberg. First pitch from Greencastle, Ind. is scheduled for 10 a.m.
