Jordan Holmes can add one more award to her trophy case. The junior standout was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America third team. Holmes is the 75th Academic All-American from Denison University.
A psychology major with a minor in women's and gender studies, Holmes is the NCAC's career leader in blocked shots and rebounds. She is averaging 16.0 points, 17.9 rebounds, 6.1 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game this season. Holmes has also been named NCAC Player of the Week on five different occasions and was the United States Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week on Jan. 5.
This year, Holmes has dominated NCAC competition. She is the conference leader in rebounds per game (17.9), field goal percentage (.683), and blocks (165). The Pittsburgh, Pa. native also ranks among conference leaders in points per game (16.0 – fourth) and steals (47 – T-6th).
Holmes is a two-time all-NCAC first-team honoree. She is currently 26 blocks away from being the first player in Division III history with 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 500 blocks in her career. Already, she is the only Denison player with at least 1,000 points and rebounds.
Last week, Holmes broke her own NCAC Tournament record for rebounds in a game when she grabbed 28 boards against Allegheny. After averaging 22.5 points and 24 rebounds across two tournament games, Holmes was named to the NCAC All-Tournament team.
The Big Red will take on Ohio Northern in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Thursday, March 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Holland, Mich. on the campus of Hope College.
