Four receive All-Ohio honors
The Denison women's soccer team had four athletes land on the 2011 Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio teams. Sophomore Andrea Karl and first-year Lydia Harlan were named to the first-team All-Ohio squad, while junior Alicia Blake earned second-team All-Ohio honors. In addition, Karl and Blake were first-team Academic All-Ohio selections, while Sara Livingston was a third-team Academic All-Ohio pick.
Karl, a two-year starter in goal, was named Denison's 60th CoSIDA Academic All-American after a solid season between the pipes. The third-team All-Great Lakes Region and second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection started all 18 games in net and finished second in the NCAC in goals against average (0.60) and save percentage (.861), and was third in shutouts (9) and goals allowed (11).
Harlan was a first-team all-conference and second-team all-region selection in her rookie season. She started 17 of 18 matches, co-led the team in goals (4) and finished second with eight points. The midfielder also attempted a team-best 72 shots, recorded two game-winning goals, and logged her first-career hat trick in a 3-0 win at regional rival Otterbein.
Blake earned first-team All-NCAC honors after starting all 18 matches on the Big Red backline. The third-team all-region pick helped the DU defense post 10 shutouts and a 0.58 goals against average.
Livingston, an honorable mention All-NCAC selection, started 14 of 17 games in the Denison midfield. This season, the junior logged a game-winning goal and an assist.
In addition to the All-Ohio accolades, Denison was named to the NSCAA Academic Award list. To qualify for the award, teams must post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
