ORLANDO, Fla. -- Denison women's tennis closed out their spring trip on Friday afternoon, defeating St. Lawrence University, 8-1, at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The day began with three-straight wins on the doubles courts, headlined by an 8-0 sweep in No. 2 doubles by Denison's Ashley Hammons and Megan Hickey over Katherine Apt and Caroline Reilly. The Big Red also had a convincing win on the top court, as Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup enjoyed an 8-2 win over the Saints' Emily Wyman and Lia Petersen.
In singles play, Hawley held on to win No. 1 singles with a pair of tie-breaking set wins over Wyman, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5). Alsup then tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win over Petersen in No. 2 action, while Hickey took No. 3 singles over Apt, 6-3, 6-3.
The Saints garnered their only win of the day on the fourth court when Reilly defeated DU's Charlotte Purnode, 6-4, 6-2, but the Big Red came back to win the final two singles matches when Gramley totaled a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory over Sherrard and Carol Vitellas handed consecutive 6-1 set losses to Nasch.
The Big Red will now return home to Granville to host Kenyon College on Tuesday, March 27 at 4:30 p.m.
