GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's tennis fell to No. 22 Kenyon College on Tuesday evening, losing by a score of 6-3 at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.
Doubles play started strong for the Big Red after Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup took top-flight doubles over the nation's 11th ranked pairing of Diana Aboubakare and Erika Oku, 8-3. The Ladies rebounded on the No. 2 court when Maggie Sweeney and Grace Winslow defeated Megan Hickey and Ashley Hammons, 8-5, but DU took a 2-1 lead following doubles competition thanks to Madeline Hart and Courtney Brown's 9-8 (7-3) tiebreaker win over Ceylan Can and Ilana Blackwood.
On the singles courts, Kenyon took four-straight singles matches to start the competition, headlined by a three-setter in No. 1 singles between Hawley and Aboubakare. Falling in the first set 6-4, Hawley came back to tie the match at 1-1 before falling in the third set, 6-2.
The Big Red were able to capture a singles win in No. 5 play after Hammons defeated Winslow, 6-3, 6-2, but a loss for Charlotte Purnode in No. 6 singles to Annie Reiner 6-3, 7-5 finalized the match.
Denison will continue their four-match homestand on Saturday, March 31 when they host the Bears of Shawnee State University at 12 p.m. in Granville.
