Denison men's and women's cross country will compete at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship races this Saturday, Oct. 28th in Oberlin, Ohio. The women's race is set to begin at 11 a.m., while the men's race will follow at 11:45 a.m.
Coming into the conference meet, the Big Red have primed themselves throughout the season with four top-15 finishes for both the men's and women's teams in 2017. In 8k races this season, the men earned their best finish of the year in 11th place at the All-Ohio Championships on Sept. 29th in Cedarville, Ohio. The women's team garnered their season-best at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 9 where they finished in 10th place.
On the men's side, Denison has been paced throughout the season by sophomore Benjamin Foster. Foster has accumulated four top-25 finishes on the season, with his best 8k time coming two weekends ago at NCAC Championship host, Oberlin College where he completed the race in 25:52.2 and finished in 15th.
Junior Jack Marchetti has stayed close with Foster all season long as he has placed in the top-70 on four separate occasions. His best finish of the year came at the All-Ohio where he placed 43rd among Division III runners. Marchetti's best time occurred at Oberlin when he finished the 8k race in 26:58.
Clayton Watters has been DU's consistent third leg this season, logging four races in the top-100 and a season-best time of 27:21.2. At the 2016 NCAC Championship in Terre Haute, Indiana, Foster, Marchetti and Watters all finished within 15 seconds of each other for fifth through seventh best on the team.
For the women's team, the Big Red are led by sophomore Erin O'Connor and freshman Tommy Solberg. O'Connor has totaled four finishes in the top-60 this season, with her best 6k time coming at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational in 24:08.9. Solberg is coming off her best finish of the season at Oberlin's Inter-Regional Rumble where she ended the race in 47th place and logged a career-best time of 23:37.4.
Senior Emily Grabauskas has helped pace the women's squad with four top-100 finishes in 2017, including a season-best time of 24:33.7 at Oberlin. At last season's NCAC Championship, O'Connor and Grabauskas finished in the top-50 for the Big Red, clocking in at 25:06 and 25:19, respectively.
