GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison University men's and women's swimming & diving was well represented on the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America teams. Twenty-six Denison student-athletes (13 men and 13 women) received Scholar All-America accolades which ranked the Denison program third among all Division III institutions in terms of total Scholar All-America selections across both genders.
MIT and Kenyon led Division III with 30 Scholar All-American selections while Denison and Emory followed in third place with 26.
In addition to Denison's 26 Scholar All-American's, both the men's program and the women's program received the Scholar All-America team award. The women's team boasted a cumulative grade point average of 3.47 which tied for the top GPA in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The men's squad posted a cumulative GPA of 3.21.
The Denison men's swimming & diving team is coming off its fourth national championship in eight years after a dominating performance at the Division III Championship in Indianapolis in March. Scholar All-America honors from the men's squad went to James Baker, Ben Burdick, Carson Clear, Tiernan Foster-Smith, Eric Gerlach, Drake Horton, Liam Marsden-Readford, Matt McHugh, Chas Sigloh, Zach Wagner, Bebe Wang, Brett Weicht, and Jason Wesseling.
The Big Red women's swimming & diving team reached the podium once again after a fourth-place national finish at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship. That ran the DU women's streak of top-4 national finishes to 11. The program also has an impressive streak of top-7 finishes dating back to 1987 (32-years). Scholar All-America honors from the women's squad were awarded to Caroline Colville, Allison Fitzgerald, Halli Garza, Maddie Hopkins, Bridget Horton, Erica Hsu, Eva Jorn, Casey Kirby, Jacquelyn Kurkjian, KT Kustritz, Kate Mesaros, Zoe Whelan, and Natalie Zaravella.
Last month, a trio of Denison swimmers was named to the prestigious Google Cloud Academic All-America teams selected by CoSIDA. Jason Wesseling and Ben Burdick received first-team Academic All-America honors while KT Kustritz was named to the second-team. The three honorees ran Denison's total of Academic All-America selections to 89, ranking the college among the leaders in Division III.
