CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison track & field's David Carter, Danni Gutelius, and Meagan Balch were all named the North Coast Athletic Conference's Athletes of the Week after each competitor recorded a top 10 performance at Otterbein's Dave Lehman Open this past Saturday in Westerville.
Garnering the sixth NCAC Athlete of the Week honor of his career, Carter led the Big Red men with a second place finish in the triple-jump event where he tallied a maximum jump of 43'2.50" (13.17 meters). The native of New Albany, Ohio is a six-time USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region selection in the triple jump and was named an All-American in 2016.
On the women's side, Gutelius highlighted DU's effort in the high jump with a final mark of 5'0.25" (1.53 meters) to finish fourth overall out of 15 competitors. She also led Denison in the 200-meter dash to finish in 27th after clocking in at 30.14.
Balch added another top 10 finish for the Big Red when she logged a time of 11:01.87 in the 3,000-meter run to place eighth overall. Balch's time was third-best among conference athletes this season.
Denison will return to action this Saturday, January 26 when they travel to the College of Wooster for the 2019 Fighting Scots Invitational. Field events will begin at 12 p.m. and running events will follow at 2:30 p.m.
