CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison track & field received recognition from the North Coast Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon when junior Ryan Fleming and sophomore Molly Smith were named the NCAC Athletes of the Weeks following their efforts at the Noke Elite Meet in Salem, Va. last Saturday.
Helping the Big Red men's team place third overall at Roanoke, Fleming placed first overall in the high jump event with a new personal best jump of 6'5" (1.96 meters) that gave him the third-best PR in Denison indoor track & field history. He also joined Jack Ruddy, Sam Bloodworth, and Millan Henegar in the 4X400 meter relay to place fourth on a final time of 3:37.46.
For Smith, her busy day was headlined in the 400-meter dash where she placed third overall on a time of 1:04.94. In the 200 meter dash, Smith finished in 10th after clocking in at 29.73.
In relay competition, Smith joined Danni Gutelius, Mackenzie Mason, and Ashley Schmoll in the 4X200 meter relay to finish in second place on a mark of 1:56.36. She also competed in the 4X400 meter relay with Gutelius, Allie Holmes, and Sydney Lerda to log a third-place finish in 4:29.21.
Fleming, Smith, and Co. will return to action this Saturday, Feb. 16 when they compete in the Kenyon Classic in Gambier and the Kent State Tune-Up in Kent.
