GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison University men's and women's track & field has officially announced their upcoming indoor and outdoor schedules for the 2019-20 season. The Big Red will open their season on Saturday, December 7 when they travel to Alliance, Ohio for the annual Toy Drive Invitational at the University of Mount Union.
Denison will ring in the new year on January 18 when they compete in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational hosted at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. After back-to-back trips to the College of Wooster for the Fighting Scots Invitational and a traditional dual meet, the Big Red return to Granville on February 8 where they will host the Bob Shannon Invitational and the All-Ohio Combined Events Championship. DU will also host the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships from February 28-29 at the Mitchell Fieldhouse.
Fast forward to March 28 when the Big Red open their outdoor schedule at the Carnegie Mellon Quad Meet before traveling to Delaware, Ohio for the Marv Frye Invitational (April 3-4) and the All-Ohio Championship (April 11). Denison's home meets during the spring include a dual meet with Wooster on April 16 before hosting the annual Big Red Invitational on April 24. The NCAC Outdoor Championships will take place at Oberlin College on May 1-2 in 2020 while the NCAA Championship will occur on May 21-23 at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y.
On the men's side, the Big Red return five All-NCAC selections from 2019, including seniors Ryan Fleming (high jump) and James Dixie (long jump) as conference champions from the indoor season. Sophomore Esteban Sainz will look to reclaim his NCAC crown in the javelin throw in 2020 while Bryce Stricker (throws), Ben Foster (distance), and Ivan Maldonado (javelin) will also add to DU's title chances this season.
The women bring back a pair of all-conference performers in sophomores Ashley Schmoll (throws) and Marija Pavlick (javelin) who each landed in the top-three at the 2019 NCAC Outdoor Championships hosted at Kenyon College. Seniors, Erin O'Connor, Sydney Lerda, and Sydney Chandler will lead the way for 17 incoming first-year's to this year's squad.
Head coach Mark FitzPatrick enters his ninth season at the helm of the men's and women's track & field programs where he has helped produce 61 NCAC champions and nine All-Americans during that time.
