Denison University is pleased to announce a unique naming opportunity for our Sports Medicine and Athletic Training facility to honor its longtime athletic trainer, Professor Emeritus Dale Googins.

Jeanetta Pyle, a Granville resident and Dale fan, has kicked off this fundraising initiative with a challenge and will match all gifts up to $100,000 toward our $500,000 goal. Reaching our goal will accomplish two things. It will establish a scholarship in Dale's name for a student majoring in Health, Exercise, and Sports Studies (HESS), and it will commemorate in perpetuity Dale's outstanding service to the college and its athletes by naming the training suite after him.

In making her gift, Jeanetta stated, "It has been a privilege to know Dale Googins since 1978. He is a caring, competent person who has dedicated his life to the care of others." She continued, "Over the years, he not only treated injured Denison athletes but also took his off-work time to care for Licking County high school athletes. If anyone deserves to be honored by the Denison family, it's Dale."

Before his retirement from Denison in 1998, Dale served for 37 years as the college's head athletic trainer. He also was an associate professor in the Department of Physical Education. Dale earned numerous awards during his career, including induction into the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame; the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award from the National Athletic Trainers Association; the Dan Libera Award for Outstanding Service by National Athletic Trainers Association; Ohio Trainer of the Year; the Sertoma Club's Service to Mankind Award; and Special Recognition by the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association for Lifesaving Techniques. In the fall of 1998, Dale was inducted into Denison's Varsity D Hall of Fame in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Denison athletics.
