GRANVILLE, Ohio— Denison men's and women's golf have enjoyed one of their most successful fall seasons in the history of both programs and the nation is beginning to take notice. The Big Red women are ranked 15th in the latest Golfstat Division III Top-25. The men are just outside of the top-25 (28th) as both squads enter the home stretch of the fall season.
Individually, Christian Early is the top-ranked player in the Great Lakes region as ranked by GolfStat. In seven rounds this fall he boasts a 71.7 scoring average. At the 54-hole Rhodes College Fall Classic in Mississippi, Early was 11-under-par after rounds of 68, 68 and 69. Sophomore teammate, Marc Mitchell, is the third-ranked player in the region. In seven rounds he has a 72.3 scoring average with a season-low 67 in the final round of the Tim Kopka Memorial on Sept. 7. As a team, Denison is ranked fourth in the region by Golfstat.
On the women's side, Emmy Timberlake is the fourth-ranked player in the region after posting a 76.0 scoring average in seven rounds. Timberlake has been in the 70s in six of her seven rounds this season, firing a season-low 72 in the first round of the Ohio Wesleyan Fall Invitational on Sept. 7. Timberlake has captured two medalist honors and four top-four finishes in four tournaments this fall.
The Denison men will host the Virtues Fall Shootout at Virtues Golf Course in Nashport, Ohio on Oct. 19-20. The Big Red women are traveling to Rome, Georgia to compete in the Chick-fil-a Intercollegiate at Coosa Country Club on Oct. 21-22.
