Denison University placed second by the narrowest of margins in the race for the 2011-12 North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports Championship. Denison ended with 153.0 points while NCAC newcomer, DePauw University edged out the Big Red with 153.5 points.
Denison’s 70 point spring season was the best among the 10 conference schools and among those 70 points were two conference championships in men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse. Overall, DU finished with five conference titles in 2011-12, running its all-time total of league crowns to 121.
Aside from men’s and women’s lacrosse, DU captured championships in men’s and women’s swimming & diving and field hockey. Ten of the department’s 23 varsity sports logged top-3 finishes in the final standings.
Third-place went to Ohio Wesleyan with 151.5 points while fourth-place was occupied by Wittenberg University with 137.0 points. Allegheny placed fifth with 133.5 points and Kenyon was sixth with 129.0 points.
Denison has won a record 12 All-Sports Championships in the 28-year history of the award and has been the runner-up on 10 occasions. Denison has also finished in the top-three in the overall standings for the last 15 years.
