George “Dee” Hutson still—after nearly five decades—holds the Denison school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21 seconds flat. Hutson also ranks second all-time in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.5 seconds.
A former president of the University’s “D” Association, he was a multiple time finalist at the NCAA Track and Field Championship at a time when all athletes were together in the same meet, regardless of the size of the college or university they attended. As a sophomore, George placed sixth in the 220-yard dash at the 1929 NCAA Men’s Track Championships. The following year, he qualified as a finalist in the 100-yard dash. As a senior, Hutson took third in the 220-yard dash and fourth in the 100-yard dash at the 1931 NCAA Men’s Track Championships.
Hutson was a salesman and account executive with Bundy Corp. for over 30 years.
