Chris Crume begins his eighth year as Denison's Director of Aquatics in 2019-20.  Crume came to Denison after spending five years as the Assistant Director of Aquatics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Since arriving at Denison, Crume has created the AquaFit program and the Learn 2 Swim programs.  He has also served as the meet director for seven North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, and the 2014 and 2016 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Diving Regionals.

While at Purdue, Crume managed a large staff of facility managers, lifeguards, swimming instructors, and coordinators while maintaining both operating budgets and student-wage budgets.  Crume taught American Red Cross lifeguard training classes and implemented new emergency action plans for the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. 

Crume was heavily involved in all intercollegiate and private events that took place at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.  At those events, he managed the Daktronics timing system, meet manager software and video display board.  During his time at Purdue, he served as a volunteer coordinator for the 2009 Men’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championship, the 2010 Women’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championship, and the 2010 Women’s NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championship.

Prior to his appointment at Purdue, Crume spent two years as a Graduate Assistant at Indiana University in Aquatics.  There he managed a staff of 33 lifeguards, maintained all risk management certifications while creating and implementing the Swim to Summer incentive program.  During the summer months in Bloomington, he served as the Assistant Meet Director for the Speedo Champions Series.

A 2005 graduate of Ball State University, Crume received his bachelor of science, cum laude, in exercise science and aquatics.  While serving as a graduate assistant in Bloomington, Ind., Crume earned a master of science in recreational sport administration in 2007.

Crume has also interned with Camp Adventure Youth Service at Camp Kinser in Okinawa, Japan where he served as Aquatics Director, and as an undergrad, he was employed as a swim instructor and lifeguard at Ball State.  He is a certified Red Cross instructor for lifeguard training, water safety, CPR and First Aid.  Chris and his wife, Autumn, live in Newark, Ohio.
