GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison rolled to a doubleheader sweep over Hiram College on Friday night at Big Red Field. The Big Red took game one, 13-1 and took game two by a final score of 16-4. The sweep improves Denison's record to 18-6 overall and 7-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Denison starter Danny Brackman went eight strong innings in the opener, allowing one earned run via five hits. He struck out seven and walked only one to improve to 3-0. Jack Blanchard was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Tanner Johnson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Vince Walker was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored to round out the offensive leaders for DU.
In game two, Perley Provost got the start and ran his record to a perfect 5-0. He pitched 5.0 innings and allowed two earned runs off eight hits while striking out five. The Big Red pounded out 19 hits and six extra-base hits en route to the 12-run victory. Johnson continued to swing a hot bat as he went 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored. He blasted a solo home run to left in the fifth inning and three batters later, Will Krushena hit a 2-run home run to center. Krushena was 3-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs and three runs scored. Grady Paine also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Noah Hahn drove in three while going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Winners of seven straight and 11 of 12, the Big Red will travel to 14th ranked Marietta College on Saturday, April 14 for a 12 p.m. first pitch against the Pioneers. Denison was scheduled to play at Muskingum but that game was postponed due to an unfavorable weather forecast.
