GAMBIER, Ohio-- Denison's 10-game winning streak may have come to an end on Saturday but the Big Red wasted little time working on a new one as they defeated Kenyon, 6-2 on Sunday at McCloskey Field. The win improves DU's record to 22-7 overall and 10-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
The top-six batters in the Denison order accounted for all 12 hits and all six enjoyed multi-hit afternoons.
Denison got on the board in the first inning after Tanner Johnson scored via an RBI single by Sam Frazen. In the second, Jack Blanchard doubled down the left field line to start the inning and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Brian McAuliffe's sacrifice fly to right, plated Blanchard with the game's second run.
Kenyon scored a run in the third on an RBI single by Alex Gow. With Denison leading 2-1 entering the fifth, Grady Paine led off with a single up the middle. Frazen reached on an error and an infield single by Will Krushena loaded the bases with no outs. Blanchard followed with a sacrifice fly to center. A squeeze bunt by Vince Walker with Frazen on third got the job done, giving the Big Red a 4-1 lead.
In the seventh, Denison added two more insurance runs thanks to a two-run double by Walker that scored Krushena and Blanchard.
Kenyon scored its second run of the game in the eighth and did not threaten in the ninth. John Troll got the start for Denison and pitched 4.0 innings. He allowed three hits and one run while striking out four. Perley Provost pitched the next four innings in relief and got the win, improving to 7-0.
