On Saturday, Denison University and Denison Baseball will partner with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation for its College Day Experience. Every year the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation makes the concept of college a reality for hundreds of at-risk youth through the College Day Experience. Denison University was selected to participate in this program and joins a list of 19 other partner colleges and universities such as American University, Mississippi State, North Carolina, and Ohio State.
Youth from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation will arrive on Denison's campus on Saturday, October 6 at the Mitchell Center where they will receive opening remarks from members of the Denison University baseball team. A campus tour conducted by current Denison student-athletes will take place followed by lunch at Huffman Dining Hall. A question and answer session with Denison baseball players and student-athletes will be the featured programming piece of the day. At the end of the Q&A, they will attend the 3 p.m. football game featuring Denison vs. Wabash College at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
"I applaud Coach Deegan for taking such an interest in the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and for his efforts to make this event happen," said Assistant Director of Athletics, Dr. Gregory Lott. "Denison has worked to make college more accessible to students from Columbus City schools through programs such as the Denison-Columbus Alliance Scholars. This was a natural partnership. We are thrilled to introduce the group to Denison, to expose them to a high-touch liberal arts institution, and talk about how sport can be an integral part of an education."
