GRANVILLE, Ohio – On the heels of a 32-win season in 2018 and the first NCAA Division III Regional appearance in program history, Denison University baseball received early recognition to start the 2019 campaign this week as senior pitcher Mikey Rivera was named to the D3baseball.com Preseason All-America second-team.

Rivera earned All-Midwest Region second-team honors from D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings following a breakout season in 2018. While anchoring the Big Red bullpen as a junior, Rivera led the team with 28 appearances and finished with a 3-1 record with a team-best eight saves.  He posted a 2.13 ERA in 63.1 innings pitched and struck out 67 batters.  His 9.52 K/9IP was a career-high.  The Chicago, Ill. native shattered the program's single-season record for appearances and tied the Denison record for saves in a season (8).  His 2.13 ERA also broke the DU single-season mark by pitchers with a minimum of 50 innings pitched.

Also named to the All-NCAC first-team in 2018, Rivera has totaled an 11-5 record, 10 saves, 137 strikeouts, and a 3.82 ERA through his first three seasons in Granville.

Rivera and the Big Red will look to improve on their 2018 success when they open the 2019 campaign on Friday, February 22 with UMass Dartmouth in Ferrum, Va. First-pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
