WESTLAKE, Ohio-- Denison's junior running back Alex Minton was named the North Coast Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Big Red to a 27-10 victory over Ohio Wesleyan. Minton is the third Denison football student-athlete to receive the honor this season, joining teammates Canaan Gebele and Nate Keirn.
Minton rushed for a career-high 226 yards on 32 carries, in the process turning in the seventh-best single-game rushing performance in Denison history. After a 58-yard run on the first drive of the game that set up Denison's first touchdown, the Bethel Park, Pennsylvania native averaged over seven yards per carry the rest of the afternoon to post the best single-game rushing performance by a Denison offensive back since Michael Barnes went for 270 yards in 2008 against Kalamazoo.
After earning second-team All-NCAC honors in 2017, Minton picked up where he left off with 814 yards rushing through seven games. He is on pace to have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with three regular season contests remaining on the schedule. Minton has put himself in a position to set career-highs in rushing yards in a season after last year's 1,001-yard season.
Denison returns to action on Saturday, October 27 in Hiram, Ohio against the Terriers at 1:00 pm.
