GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison quarterback Canaan Gebele was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance in the Big Red's 66-18 victory over the College of Wooster on Saturday night.
Gebele was responsible for eight touchdowns against the Fighting Scots. He was 19-of-23 passing for 284 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball 15 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns, and he caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver David Weimar in the second quarter. Gebele finished with 409 yards of total offense and needs only 221 yards of total offense this week to reach 10,000 yards for his career.
Gebele, a four-year starter, is putting a capstone on one of the most impressive careers in the 128-year history of Denison football. Already Denison's career-leader in passing yards (7,404), completions (615) and touchdown passes (63) he has also climbed the leaderboard with some of the best ball carriers at Denison. Gebele ranks 12th all-time in rushing yards with 2,366 and needs only 38 yards to move into ninth place on that list. He is also three rushing touchdowns shy of becoming the all-time leader in that category, as well.
