GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison has learned its opponent for the 2018 NCAA Division III Football Championship.  The Big Red will travel to Mount Union on Saturday, Nov. 17 for a noon kickoff.

Denison (8-2) is the recipient of the automatic qualifier from the North Coast Athletic Conference.  They captured the program's first conference championship since 1986.  This is the second NCAA playoff appearance for the Big Red and their first since 1985.

The Big Red is led by senior quarterback Canaan Gebele who is averaging 274.2 yards of total offense per game.  He is the third player in the history of the NCAC to surpass 10,000 yards of total offense in his career.  Junior tailback Alex Minton has rushed for 1,291 yards and 12 touchdowns and Nate Keirn leads the defense with 10.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles-for-loss.

Mount Union is 10-0 and the No. 1 ranked team in the nation in both the D3football.com and the AFCA Division III Top-25 poll.  The Purple Raiders are the defending national champions and the winners of 13 national championships.

Denison and Mount Union have some history in the NCAA playoffs.  In Denison's only playoff appearance in 1985, they suffered a 35-3 loss to the Purple Raiders in Alliance. That was Mount Union's first NCAA playoff appearance.

This is the 30th meeting between the two teams with Denison holding a 19-9-1 lead in the series.  The team's last met in 1989 with Denison scoring a 24-21 win in Alliance.  Mount Union hasn't lost a non-conference home game since.

More information on this matchup will be posted throughout the week on denisonbigred.com.
