MEADVILLE, Pa.--  Denison football improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference after a 42-7 win over Allegheny on Saturday night at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

While the offense did put 42 points on the scoreboard, it was the Denison defense that set the table with outstanding field position all night.  The Gators managed only 39 yards of total offense in the first half, allowing DU to take a 25-0 lead into the locker room.  For the game, Denison outgained Allegheny 404-201.

Nate Keirn led the defense with six tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.  Andrew Smith tallied eight tackles as five of Allegheny's 14 drives ended with a three-and-out.

Drew Dawkins was 15-of-30 for 178 yards and two touchdowns.  Peyton Vining led all receivers with five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.  His 40-yard grab in the first quarter marked his fourth-straight game with a reception of 30-yards or more.

Alex Minton ran the ball 14 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns.  He scored on a 25-yard TD run in the second quarter and on a two-yard plunge in the third.  Dawkins added 60 yards on 13 carries while Dara Laja chipped in 29 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.

Pat Kramer connected on field goals from 42 yards and 35 yards while going 4-for-4 on PATs.

Denison held the dangerous Alex Victor to one catch for 25 yards.  Victor entered the game needing 101 yards to reach 3,000 career receiving yards.  In four games against Denison dating back to 2016, Victor has been bottled up and limited to seven receptions for 123 yards.

Allegheny's lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Nazareth Greer to Ben Bachik.

This marked the sixth-straight win over Allegheny.  During that six-game winning streak, the Big Red have outscored the Gators 290-96 for an average score of 48-16.

Denison returns to Piper Stadium next Saturday (Oct. 12) when they host Oberlin College for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
