GRANVILLE, Ohio--  After a 2-1 win over Wittenberg in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, Denison will face Washington and Lee in Lexington, Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship on Wednesday, November 8 at 3 p.m.  The winner of the Denison-Washington and Lee first-round contest will travel to Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania for the second round of the tournament on Saturday, November 11.

Denison (17-3) is making its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and its third appearance under head coach P.J. Soteriades.  The Big Red brings the nation's second-longest winning streak into the postseason at 15 games.  DU hasn't lost since Sept. 13.  During the 15-game winning streak, Denison has outscored the opposition 50-9.

Charlotte Happel leads the team in goals with 13 and NCAC Tournament MVP Charlotte Godfrey is the team leader in points with 12 goals and six assists.  While the offense has been dominate, outshooting opponents 396-113, the defense has been equally impressive.  Senior defender Jane Higley and newcomer Michelle Kabaira have made opposing offenses scuffle.  Twelve times this season, Denison's opponents have been held to five shots or less for the entire game.  The defense ranks sixth in the nation in goals-against average (0.78).

This is a rematch from a Sept. 10 matchup between Denison and W&L that took place in Granville.  The Big Red prevailed 2-0 and blanked the Generals in shots, 14-0.  Washington and Lee checks into the NCAA Tournament with a 14-4 record, winners of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Denison is 4-13 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.  They have two national semifinal appearances to their credit in 1982 and 1983.  Denison's last NCAA Tournament appearance occurred in 2011 where they suffered a 4-1 loss to MIT in Brunswick, Maine.
