GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison field hockey advanced to their second straight North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match following a 3-0 win over Wittenberg in the conference semifinal. The top-seeded Big Red will now host No. 2 Wooster on Saturday, November 3 at 12 p.m. at Piper Stadium after the Scots defeated No. 3 Kenyon 2-1.
Denison earned a spot on the conference title game after outshooting the Tigers 26-5 and cashing in on goals from Charlotte Happel, Michelle Kabaira, and Charlotte Godfrey. The win marked seven-straight victories over Wittenberg dating back to 2016.
In two prior meetings with Wooster, the Big Red have posted consecutive shutouts over the Scots while combining for five goals in wins of 2-0 and 3-0. Senior Alyssa Bahel led DU in both victories, totaling two goals on three shots. In three-straight victories over Wooster, Denison has outscored the opposition 10-1.
Looking to capture their second NCAC Tournament title in the last two years, the Big Red are currently riding a 12-game winning streak where they have outscored their opponents 32-5. Godfrey, Happel and senior All-American Lucy Pearsall are currently tied for the team lead with seven goals each, while the trio has also combined for 12 assists on the season. The defense, led by sophomore All-American Michelle Kabaira and junior Ali Gakenheimer has allowed only 11 goals in 19 matches this season.
Denison is currently 17-2 and ranked in the others receiving votes section of the NFCA Division III Top-25 poll. Over the last two seasons, Denison has gone 34-6 (.850). They have won 27 consecutive conference games, which is an NCAC record.
Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $3 for children (18 and under). Students with a valid NCAC institution ID, as well as the first 50 members of the Denison faculty or staff, are admitted free of charge. A live video stream will be provided by the Denison Sports Network beginning at 11:45 a.m.
