GRANVILLE, Ohio – Thanks to Abby Scully's game-winner in overtime, Denison field hockey completed their comeback against Rhodes College on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory at Piper Stadium in Granville.

Outshooting the Lynx 15-12 on the day, it was the Big Red who fell into an early deficit in the 20th minute when Rhodes' Sabrina Simpson landed a backhand shot from the right side and put DU behind 1-0 entering halftime.

After keeping the Big Red at bay in the third quarter, it was Rhodes who was outshot 5-3 in the fourth frame, putting Denison in a position to post the equalizer before the end of regulation.

At 57:45, DU's AC Veith sent a penalty corner into the Big Red offense where senior Caroline Little attempted a shot that was blocked, forcing a penalty stroke in the 58th minute. Lined up one-on-one with Rhodes' goalie Nina Migneco, Little connected on a sweeping shot to the left side of the cage that beat the goalie and tied the match at 1-1 at 57:57.

With 34 seconds to play, Little looked to have secured the win for the Big Red, but her shot landed wide right of the goal leaving both sides tied at the end of regulation.

Entering overtime, Denison continued to ride their momentum as Scully took the opening possession and attacked the Lynx defense. Scully attempted her first shot from the left side of the cage, but took the rebound with her backhand and fired it past Migneco for her third goal of the season and to give DU their second overtime victory in 2019. The Big Red improved to 6-1 overall while Rhodes dropped to 3-2 on the season.

In addition to her game-winner, Scully led the match with five shots, including two on goal. Little followed with three shots and a goal while Charlotte Godfrey also attempted three shots. Simpson, Meghan Harmon, Hailey Mules, and Sam Hutchinson each tallied two shots for Rhodes, while Simpson led the team with two shots on goal.

In goal, Teya Adams improved to 6-1 on the season for the Big Red after collecting six saves in a full match effort. Rhodes' Migneco finished with five saves in 60:44 of action.

Denison continues their three-match homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 25 when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 5 p.m. in Granville.
