MEADVILLE, Pa.--  The Denison offense exploded for four second half goals allowing the Big Red to defeat Allegheny 4-0 on Saturday.

This is the inaugural season for field hockey at Allegheny, thus making this the first-ever meeting between the two schools.  The Gator defense turned away six potential goals in the first 30 minutes of play.

Denison's first goal came seven minutes into the third quarter when Lily Baylis scored off a pass from Charlotte Godfrey.  That opened the flood gates as the Big Red made it a 2-0 match in the 41st minute of play when Abby Scully connected with Maya Tumiwa.  One minute later, Tumiwa scored again to give her squad a 3-0 lead.

The Big Red tacked one more on the scoreboard with three minutes to play when Maren Kraak scored on an assist by Caroline Little.

Denison held a decisive 27-1 advantage in shots and an 11-1 lead in penalty corners.  Allegheny goalies Hallie Reiger and Heather Amancio combined for 13 saves.

The Big Red improves to 7-2 and the Gators drop to 0-7.  On Tuesday, Oct. 1, Denison will open North Coast Athletic Conference play when they host Kenyon at 4:30 p.m.
