Matthew Bauer scored 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win over ONU.

Matthew Bauer scored a season-high 16 points and led the way with 12 rebounds as Denison pulled away late for a 79-67 win over Ohio Northern from Livingston Gymnasium.

The Big Red led for 35 of the game's 40 minutes, but midway through the second half with Denison leading by one, Ohio Northern's Devon Allen connected on a transition 3-pointer and was fouled in the act of shooting.  He converted the four-point play to give his team a 56-53 lead with 10:14 to play.

Unfazed, Denison proceeded to go on a 12-1 run over the next seven minutes to open up an eight point lead.  The final nail in ONU's coffin came from Andrew Castagnetti when he gathered an offensive rebound and connected on a desperation 3-pointer as the shot clock expired with 4:14 to play. That gave DU a 68-58 lead.  Denison went 9-of-12 from the free throw line over the final four minutes to lock up the victory.

Bauer and Jett Speelman paced the Denison offense with 16 points apiece.  Bauer was 5-of-12 from the field and Speelman was 6-for-19.  In addition to Bauer's 16 points and 12 rebounds, he also added four blocked shots and three assists in 29 minutes.  Darius White added 14 points while shooting 5-of-9 and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.  White is rapidly approaching Denison's career mark for 3-pointers.  He is shooting 49 percent from long range this season and needs just 20 more treys to become the program's all-time leader.

David Meurer added eight points, five rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes while Max Siwik and Castagnetti contributed seven points apiece off the bench.

Ohio Northern (5-6) was led by Allen's 16 points.  Ryan Bruns finished with 13 points and five blocked shots in 26 minutes off the bench.

Denison shot 39 percent from the field while the Polar Bears shot the ball at a 46 percent clip.  DU controlled the glass, 45-38 and managed to turn 15 ONU turnovers into 18 points at the other end.

The Big Red improves to 6-4 with the victory.  They will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 3 when they travel to The College of Wooster for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
