Denison junior Jett Speelman was named to the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region team and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Great Lakes District second-team after a stellar first season with the Big Red.
Speelman led the team in scoring at 18.2 points per game. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. Speelman finished third in the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring and led the league free throw shooting by 10 percent, after shooting 89 percent from the charity stripe.
Denison finished the year with a 17-12 record, marking the most wins by a Big Red team since 1998. DU won the NCAC Tournament for the first time in program history and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament where they fell to eventual quarterfinalist, Alma in the opening round. Speelman scored a career-high 32 points in an 89-81 win over Oberlin on Dec. 9. He also averaged 22.0 ppg in Denison's three conference tournament games and was named to the NCAC All-Tournament Team. In the tournament semifinal win over 10th ranked Ohio Wesleyan, Speelman scored 26 points and added 10 rebounds.
