DELAWARE, Ohio—Seth Clark scored 30 points and Nate Axelrod scored 18 as ninth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan rallied for an 89-70 win over Denison on Wednesday night at Branch Rickey Arena.
Denison held a 38-37 lead at halftime after shooting 40 percent from the field and 5-of-13 from long range. Maxwell Siwik scored 12 points in the first half and Ohio Wesleyan struggled early on, shooting 34 percent in the opening stanza.
In the second half, OWU opened the period on a 13-2 run to take a 50-40 lead with 16 minutes to play. Denison responded with six-straight points, trimming the deficit to four with 14:46 to play. That would be as close as the Big Red would get to Ohio Wesleyan as a 14-6 run by the Bishops put them back on top by 12 with just under 12 minutes to play. The Big Red struggled to find a rhythm in the second half as they shot only 30 percent from the field and were just 1-of-12 from 3-point range. Meanwhile, OWU caught fire, shooting 56 percent in the second half while going 4-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Clark was 10-of-19 from the field and 6-of-10 from downtown for a game-high 30 points. Axelrod scored 18 points and had eight assists while Grant Gossard posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ohio Wesleyan moves to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Denison (7-5, 3-2 NCAC) will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 6) when they travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania for a 3 p.m. game against Allegheny College.
