CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- A pair of 15 point-efforts from Alex Eberhard and Harrison Hallstrom guided the Little Giants to a 63-46 victory over the Big Red on Saturday afternoon at Wabash College.
Behind 47 rebounds and holding Denison to 29-percent from the field, Wabash overcame an early 10-2 deficit to take a 23-22 lead with less than six minutes to play in the first half. Multiple three-pointers from senior Maxwell Siwik helped the Big Red take the early lead, but the Little Giants buried four of their next seven perimeter jumpers to climb back and trail by one, 22-21, before a bucket from Hallstrom pushed Wabash in front.
A basket from Spencer Patenaude cut the Denison deficit to 30-24 at the 2:07 mark, but WC ended the first half on a 12-2 scoring run and entered the half with a 33-24 advantage.
The second half opened with consecutive layups from Denison's Garrett Collier and Matt Doyle while Claude Chandonnet followed with a triple to power a 7-2 Big Red run and only trail Wabash by four, 35-31, less than two minutes into the half. The Little Giants countered with a 10-5 run over the next 5:03 led by a combined nine points from Hallstrom and Colten Garland to increase their lead to nine, 45-36, with 13:17 to play.
With 8:52 remaining in the game, Siwik connected on his third three of the day to bring DU back within six points, 47-41. Wabash finished the afternoon on a 16-5 scoring run where they totaled four of their final 10 field goals, including four points each from Eberhard and Parker Manges to keep the win in Crawfordsville.
Eberhard and Hallstrom added a combined 18 rebounds to their game-high 15-point afternoons, including 10 boards for Hallstrom, good for a double-double. Jack Davidson chipped in 10 points and three assists.
The Big Red were paced by Siwik's 14 points and six rebounds. Collier added 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting and Chandonnet contributed eight points.
Denison will return home on Wednesday, Jan. 17 when they play host to Hiram College at 7:30 p.m.
