GRANVILLE, Ohio—Fred Brou scored a career-high 22 points and hit the game-winning basket with 0.8 seconds left in overtime to send Denison to an 80-79 win over Case Western Reserve.

After Sam Hansen's layup with 19 seconds left put the Spartans on top, 79-78, Denison took over and played for the last shot.  Matt Doyle drove part way and found Brou who made a turnaround jumper in the paint just before time expired.

Case Western Reserve inbounded the ball with just under one second remaining but failed to take a last-second attempt.

There were 16 lead changes and 12 ties, mostly coming late in the second half.  The Spartans led by 11 points with 9:14 left in regulation but the Big Red went on a 9-0 run to get back into the game.  Trailing by four with just over one minute to play, Brou made it a two-point game.  Two misses at the other end allowed Denison to get out in transition and Alex Meurer was fouled on his drive to the basket by Michael Volkening.  Meurer connected on both free throws, tying the game at 71-71.  Case got a look but Ignas Masiulionis' 3-point try from way downtown was off the mark at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Brou was 10-of-17 from the field for a career-high 22 points.  He also led the team with five assists and was second on the squad with seven rebounds.  Meurer matched his season and career high with 16 points.  He was 7-for-7 from the free throw line and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.

Jake Livingston chipped in 11 points and eight boards in 25 minutes.  Matt Gerics and Doyle finished with nine points apiece for DU.

Case was led by Volkening's 14 points.  Mont Khela came off the bench to score 13 points in 14 minutes.

Denison shot 47 percent from the field (29-for-62) and was 15-for-23 at the free throw line.  Denison outscored Case 23-4 in fast-break points while the Spartans won the turnover battle, 16-9.

The Big Red improves to 1-2 overall and will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 28 when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to face the Otterbein Cardinals at 7 p.m.
