GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison utilized a 9-0 run early in the second half to defeat Kenyon 70-61 on Saturday afternoon at Livingston Gymnasium. The Big Red shot 55 percent from the field in the second half and knocked down six, 3-pointers to come away with the victory.
The game was tied 30-30 at halftime and the Lords took a 36-32 lead with 18:10 to play. A pair of treys by Claude Chandonnet and Jack Coulter helped Denison take a six-point lead with 14 minutes to play. A triple by Matt Doyle put DU on top by 10 with 8:14 left, marking Denison's first double-figure lead of the afternoon.
The Denison lead grew as large as 12 with three minutes left after a pair of free throws by Fred Brou. The Big Red were led in scoring by Nate Haller. In his first career start, the junior was 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from long range. Matt Gerics tallied 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds in 23 minutes. Alex Meurer and Doyle added nine points while Jake Livingston chipped in eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Kenyon was led in scoring by Matt Shifrin who finished with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Elijah Davis finished with 13.
Denison shot 54 percent from the field (25-of-46) and was 8-of-22 from 3-point range. Kenyon shot 39 percent and was 12-of-33 from behind the arc.
The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday when they take on Capital 7 p.m. in Columbus.
