MANSFIELD, Ohio—With two-thirds of the 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship in the books the Denison men's golf team sits in fifth place at 617 strokes. They trail fourth-place Kenyon by seven shots heading into Sunday's final round at Westbrook Country Club. Wittenberg leads the field with a two-round total of 595. Ohio Wesleyan is second at 601 followed by Allegheny in third place at 603. Positions six through nine are occupied by Wooster (619), DePauw (629), Wabash (639) and Hiram (767).
Denison was led on Saturday by Nick Brodbeck who moved into a tie for sixth place overall after a four-over-par round of 76. Brodbeck followed up his 75 on Friday under much tougher conditions due to the significant temperature drop and the gusty winds. He birdied the lengthy 513-yard par 4, third hole and also birdied the par-5, fifth to shoot an even-par 36 on the front. He followed that up with a 40 on the back nine.
Knox Montgomery and Charlie Winkler carded a pair of 78s on Saturday. Montgomery sits in a tie for 15th place overall while Winkler is in a tie for 24th. Montgomery carded a birdie on the par-3 sixth hole while Winkler birdied two of the three par-5's.
The Big Red will close out the 2018 NCAC Championship on Sunday at Westbrook Country Club.
