SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Denison men's golf opened their 2018 fall season on Saturday afternoon at Ohio Wesleyan's Battle at the Brook hosted at the Plum Brook Country Club in Sandusky, Ohio.

Combining for a first-day score of 309, the Big Red currently sit in fifth place overall, just four strokes behind fourth-place Thomas More College (305). Leading the first day of play for DU was freshman Cal Buonocore who posted a first round 74, which landed him at three-over par for the day and in a tie for ninth place. Trailing Buonocore by two strokes or less were junior Christian Early with a 75 (T-11th) and Ben Scherman's first round 76 (T-15th).

Rounding out the DU scoring was junior Connor Holleran's 84 (T-36th) and senior Nick Brodbeck with an 85 through the first 18 holes of play as he sits in a tie for 38th place.

Competing as individuals for Denison, freshman Marc Mitchell led all Big Red golfers with a two-over par 73 in the first round, while sophomore Will Grady shot an 80 during his first round of the season.

Denison will return to the Plum Brook Country Club on Sunday, September 9 for the final day of action at the Battle at the Brook in Sandusky.
