NASHPORT, Ohio -- Paced by a pair of top-10 finishes from junior Christian Early and freshman Marc Mitchell and a second round team score of 312, Denison men's golf finished first overall and secured the team championship at the 2018 Virtues Fall Shootout hosted by the Big Red at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Totaling a team score of 629 for the tournament, DU finished four strokes ahead of No. 29 Allegheny College who finished with a two-day score of 633, while Thomas More followed in third at 643.

Winning their first regular-season tournament since the Ted Barclay Spring Invitational in 2015, the Big Red were led by Early and his back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 for a second round 74 to finish the tournament six-over-par (150) in second place. This was Early's second, top-two finish of the season. His previous second place finish was at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic (Oct. 6-7) when he finished in a tie for second with a two-round score of 144.

Mitchell followed in a five-way tie for fourth place with a 79 on the second day to finish +11 for the tournament at 155. Playing as Denison's No. 1 for the weekend, Mitchell racked up his second, top-five finish of the season, last accomplished at the Battle at the Brook (Sept. 8-9) where he placed fourth overall.

After shooting an 81 on the first day, senior Nick Brodbeck improved by three strokes in the final round to post a 78 and tie for 12th overall with a total score of 159.  Rounding out the team scoring for DU was freshman Ben Scherman in a tie for 19th (166) and junior Connor Holleran who recorded a 170 (T-28th).

Freshman Cal Buonocore highlighted Denison's individuals with a two-round 158 to finish in a tie for ninth place with a +14. Sophomore Will Grady improved by one stroke on day two (80) to finish in 16th place (161), and Griffin Hayden ended the weekend with a 176 (T-36th).

Ending the fall season with a victory, Denison men's golf tallied four, top five tournament finishes for the fall, including a season-low two-round team score of 574 at the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout (Sept. 15-16).
