JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Denison men's golf posted a day-three score of 294 to place sixth overall on Sunday at the 2019 Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Championship at the Paradise Point Golf Course in Jacksonville, N.C. Shooting 881 for the weekend, the Big Red finished eight strokes ahead of seventh-place Christopher Newport (889) and landed four strokes behind Transylvania in fifth (877). Methodist University was crowned the overall champion after collecting a three-day score of 863.
Playing the Par-73 Gold Course in the final round, Denison was led by freshman Ben Scherman who fired a two-under-par 71 to headline the squad and finish the weekend in a tie for 26th. Sophomore Will Grady also finished in a tie for 26th following his even 73 in the final round to record a weekend score of 222.
Marc Mitchell and Christian Early each finished two-over-par for the final round at 75 with Mitchell tallying a team-best +3 (219) for the weekend to tie for 17th. Early finished at +10 for the tournament.
Senior Nick Brodbeck also competed for Denison on the final day and posted a seven-over-par 80 and recorded a weekend score of 226 (+10).
Denison will return to the tee box next Saturday, April 13 to compete in the three-day Nye Intercollegiate Golf Championship hosted by the College of Wooster at the Wooster Country Club.
