NORMAN, Okla. – Denison men's golf was honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday as senior Nick Brodbeck and junior Christian Early were named Division III Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for the 2018-19 season.
Also named an All-America Scholar in 2018, Brodbeck closed out his Denison career as an All-NCAC Honorable Mention selection in 2019 following a 15th place finish at the 2019 NCAC Men's Golf Championship. Ending his final year in Granville with an average score of 76.9, Brodbeck played in all 18 rounds for the Big Red as a senior and posted a new career-low round of 69 during the second round of the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate in Camp Lejeune, N.C. (April 5-7). A native of Dayton, Ohio, Brodbeck recently graduated from Denison with a degree in biology.
Following his selection to the 2019 PING All-Great Lakes Region Team back in May, Early made his debut as an All-America Scholar after playing in all 18 rounds for DU as a junior while leading the team with a stroke-average of 73.6. He also led the Big Red with six, top-five finishes, including a first-place finish at the 2019 Ted Barclay Invitational (April 27-28) after finishing two-over-par at 144. An economics major with a minor in communication, Early also fired a new career-low 67 during the second round of the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout (Sept. 15-16).
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and must participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
Denison men's golf finished the 2018-19 campaign with four tournament victories, including back-to-back wins at the Nye Intercollegiate and the Ted Barclay Invitational to end the regular season.
