NASHPORT, Ohio--  Denison trails first place Allegheny by only four strokes entering Sunday's final round at the Virtues Fall Shootout hosted by Denison University at The Virtues Golf Club.

The Big Red fired an opening-round 303 and was led by Christian Early's even-par 72 and Ben Scherman's 1-over-par 73.  Early fired a 37 on the front and opened the back nine with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole.  After a bogey on the par-3 12th, Early posted consecutive birdies on No. 16 and No. 17 but a bogey on 18 moved him back to level par for the round.

Scherman's round was highlighted by a pair of eagles on both par fives on the back nine.  He also carded birdies on the par-4 11th hole.  His 73 was one stroke off his season-low at the Centre Fall Invitational earlier this month.

DU's third and fourth scores came from Connor Holleran and Marc Mitchell.  Holleran fired a five-over-par 77 and Mitchell carded an 81.  Sam Davis rounded out the scoring with an 83.

The Big Red also had three players entered as individuals.  Junior Will Grady fired a season-low round of 72.  Jesse Felker followed with a 74 and Jack Lindgren posted an 82.  Grady's round was highlighted by a 34 on the front nine.

Sunday's final round is slated for an 8:20 a.m. start.
